Research Scientist
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Svetlana V. Boriskina develops new materials and technologies to harvest and manipulate light and heat for applications in renewable energy, environmental sensing, space exploration, and fashion. Her group at MIT engineers smart and sustainable fabrics, new photonic meta-materials, wearable high-efficiency sensors, and platforms for harvesting solar and waste heat for clean energy generation. As the lead editor of the Energy and Environmental Optics Express, Svetlana helps to disseminate scientific knowledge and encourage the international collaborative effort to address challenges in the water-energy-environment nexus. She teaches classes in fashion engineering, metamaterials design, and photonic biosensing.
