Dr. Steven Barrett is a professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT, where he directs the Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment. He is also head of the AeroAstro Department’s Air Sector. The aim of his research is to make aviation cleaner and quieter, including developing low emissions and noise propulsion technologies, improving scientific understanding of the atmospheric impacts of aircraft pollution, and evaluating the sustainability of biofuels, cryogenic fuels, and electric aircraft. He teaches courses on jet and rocket propulsion, and energy and environmental issues in aerospace.
